ProfileUnity's FlexApp UIA technology enables user installed applications in non-persistent virtual desktop environments without affecting the underlying base image of the machine. FlexApp stores user installed applications separately from the Windows® OS in designated storage areas. As users login, their chosen applications get "snapped-in" to the desktop in seconds. This innovative solution offers unparalleled flexibility and simplicity for organizations who want to empower users with a deeper level of personalization.
FlexApp UIA offers advantages, including:
How FlexApp UIA Works...
FlexApp UIA is enabled by the administrator for select users or groups within the ProfileUnity central console. Users are provisioned a VHD (virtual hard disk) to store their applications separately from the OS and local session. Users install applications just as they normally would. During this process, FlexApp "hooks" the installation of the program, adding specialized "links" both into the local Windows OS and into the user’s managed ProfileUnity persona settings.
FlexApp is lightweight and does not need an additional Windows shell environment, nor does it require separate hardware systems to run. There is no SQL database or complex layered architecture. Users' applications can be stored to a variety of storage devices, including cost-effective SAN environments.
The solution boasts an unprecedented industry success rate of virtualizing the install of a wide variety of applications. Even those applications requiring file system drivers and other dependencies work well.
